Who is 3 Nations Brewing?
Brewmaster Gavin Secchi started 3 Nations Brewing in an unassuming North Texas warehouse to brew his own versions of classic beer recipes inspired by three nations: Belgium, Germany, and England. The first three beers that 3 Nations ever produced were a German pale ale, a Belgian-inspired witbier, and an English brown ale.
Nowadays, you can find Berliner Weisse sours and Belgian-style Krieks (an uncommon cherry-based brew) on their menu alongside popular American styles like IPAs and stouts. 3 Nations Brewing has gone on to win Brewery Of The Year honors from both Dallas Observer and CultureMap in recent years.
Where is 3 Nations Brewing?
3 Nations Brewing moved from their humble roots in Farmers Branch to a restored grain shed in downtown Carrollton, TX. The closest airports to this new brewery location are DAL Love Field and DFW International Airport. Visitors arriving straight from either airport can ride the DART light rail system to the nearby Downtown Carrollton DART Station stop just a few blocks away from the brewery.
The facility features a massive open-air beer hall and a spacious outdoor biergarten that lends itself well to social-distancing (looking for more DFW breweries with awesome outdoor patios? We have a guide for that). As of the time of this writing, the brewery’s taproom is open for business & welcomes all thirsty visitors who can wear a mask and maintain their distance.
With weekly events and small-batch beers regularly being released at the taproom, beer lovers who venture out to this Carrollton outpost will be handsomely rewarded by a great experience & tasty beer.
What’s so special about 3 Nations Brewing’s Devout Imperial Stouts?
3 Nation Brewing’s Devout imperial stout recipe rotates every 3 months to give loyal patrons a seasonal stout year round. The four variations of their Devout (8.3% ABV, 25 IBU) imperial stout are as follows:
- Devout Imperial Milk Stout – Mexican Chocolate: available December through February
- Devout Imperial Milk Stout – Horchata available March through May
- Devout Imperial Golden Stout – Marzipan: available June through August
- Devout Imperial Milk Stout – Creme Brûlée: available September through December
How does 3 Nation Brewing’s Creme Brûlée Imperial Milk Stout taste?
This stout packs a punch and really leans into the sweet creme brûlée flavor.
The pour is an opaque espresso-like brown with a quickly fading head of foam. The aroma is truly heavenly. You get tons of vanilla & caramel on the nose with hints of chocolate and coconut as well.
Sweet & roasty flavors will be the first thing you notice when you begin sipping this beer, and the caramel & chocolate notes will show up later on. Expect this beer to open up its rich flavor profile as you continue to sip; the flan-like notes become more apparent as your beer warms up. It’s a medium-bodied beer with moderate carbonation, and the flavor clings to your palette.
Final Thoughts
All in all, 3 Nations produced a fantastic milk stout. I wouldn’t hesitate buying it again. I haven’t had all of 3 Nation’s Devout stout variations yet, but I am also a huge fan of their marzipan golden stout; I have to imagine their other 2 offerings are just as delicious.
I would love to see more breweries pumping out seasonal stouts year-round instead of just saving them up for the holiday season. We are huge proponents of #StoutSeason, but how great does a golden stout sound while watching the sun slip down under the lake on a lazy summer night? Sipping a good stout is a religious experience regardless of what month of the year it is!
For those who are able to get their hands on 3 Nations’ beers, go for it.
If you ever find yourself near Carrollton, TX on a DAL/DFW layover, you owe it to yourself to stop by their downtown taproom & biergarten.
